I believe we all have an inherent desire to break bread with one another.

I love to bake. I first started taking a serious interest in baking when my husband was finishing his Master’s Degree at University of California, Davis, after I had graduated from there with majors in Literature and Sociology, and was unsure what I wanted to do next. I was so thankful for my education, but it’s an unsettling feeling not knowing what I wanted to do after so many years of work. At the time, we had an eclectic group of roommates since we only needed a three-month lease, so I found myself cooking and baking for my foreign exchange roommates, trying to make this apartment a home away from home. It quickly showed me how fast people of very different backgrounds can bond and connect over something as simple over tacos or warm chocolate chip cookies.

From there I never stopped. I baked every chance I got, and new recipes and cookbooks excited me more and more. I loved the challenge of changing recipes and making delicious and creative food. I was diving into something I loved, and found my imagination was in overdrive dreaming up recipes and creations.

I have worked at two beloved bakeries, which taught me so much about baking. One was a cookie store, in which the manager and her family are still family friends. Later, I worked at a top-notch bakery, that taught me many skills for baking cakes, cupcakes, pies, breads, dessert bars and cookies. What wonderful opportunities I had, and I will do my best to pass on the training and kindness they gave me.

So where does that leave me today? Well, I have two beautiful children who are the joy of my life. Between the birth of my two children, I worked hard at building a home baking business, that specialized in custom decorated cookies and cakes. I have created many of my own cookie designs and cake recipes, working hard to create unique and delicious desserts for my customers, friends, and family.

I still bake every chance I get, often late at night, writing recipes on scratch paper, and connecting with the baking community. And now I have this space…a blog. Some recipes will be my own creation, and others will be tried and true recipes from family members and fellow bakers I have connected with over the years.

I hope you enjoy my baking journey. I’m glad you’re here.

My Little Family

6 Facts About the Baker.

1.) My mom named me Kindra because it has the word “kind” in it. I’ve definitely taken that on as something important to be.

2.) I’m still waiting for my letter accepting me into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It’s been a long wait, but I’m patient.

3.) I married my college sweetheart and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. He is the number one supporter of my dreams.

4.) What About Bob is my favorite movie.

5.) I named my daughter after my late Grandma. It was a promise I made to her many years ago and I’m really proud of fulfilling that promise. I’m wearing her ring in the photo holding the pink cake.

6.) I’m actually a really goofy person. Some would even call me pretty funny. Hopefully I can show a little bit of that side to you all.

I’d love to hear a fun fact about you or even just a hello to know you’re here!
